Treats you CAN have....

Too often I hear of people having a post workout "treat" because they've worked hard and they deserve it. Sure you have worked hard and you do deserve to reward and re-fuel your body after all it has just done for you. But why after all that good do you reach for something bad. Choosing that burger and chips for lunch or double choc mud cake for dessert because you think you can is simply the wrong thing to do. All you are doing is spending a quick five minutes undoing all the good you just spent so much longer doing. Unless you are wanting to stay the same (very unlikely) then you need to make sure you're eating the right things both before and after your workouts. For women research shows the best time to eat carbs is before your workout and only a small protein packed snack immediately afterwards. Save your next meal for at least an hour later. This will get you the best results. 

 

Some great post workout snacks could be a small green smoothie, banana or a power ball, try my Power Ball recipe below. You'll love them, guilt free nutrient dense goodness!  

 

Go Go Goji Power Balls

 

  • 1/3 cup goji berries

  • 1/3 cup almonds

  • 11/2 cups medjool dates

  • 1 cup SLA (sunflower, linseed and almond) meal

  • 1/4 cup whey powder

  • 1/3 cup chia seeds

  • 11/2 cups fine desiccated coconut (save half for rolling)

  • 3 tbsp raw cacao powder

  • 3 tbsp coconut oil (softened/melted)

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk (more as required)

 

 

Blend goji berries and almonds in a quality food processor until fine, empty contents into large bowl.

Blend dates in food processor and add contents to bowl. 

Add all other ingredients to bowl and mix until blended well enough to mould into balls.

Add additional almond milk if mixture is too dry. 

Roll into balls, slightly smaller than golf balls. 

Roll balls in remaining coconut and let set in the freezer for 1.5 hours

 

You now have yourself a batch of approximately 20 simple post workout snacks that will keep for a week. You can also double or triple the batch and freeze for the future.
